Hi....I can verify that there was a lot of explosions in Pearl Harbor. I was on a ship waiting for fleet to receive orders to begin leaving for the invasion of the Marianna Islands (Saipan Guam Tinian, etc) There was a massive explosion on what I believe was a munitions ship and subseguently began a chain reaction to other ships and your father was probably correct in saying that he was blown on his ship. There had been many rumors floating around that it was an act of sabotage but then again it was probably caused by an accident. I was not on the USS Raleigh but was aboard the USS WarHawk which was not damaged. Needless to say the invasion was postponed for awhile.
