In reply to: Matthew Price 's message, "Montauk" on 15:54:27 01/13/06 Fri

My dad and my uncle both served aboard the Montauk during the war.My dad was a plank holder when it was commissioned in Brooklyn Navy Yard in 1944. He left the ship after they arrrived in Japan after visiting China around December 1945. Unfortunately my father died in 2001 and my uncle died in 2002. They both had some real good stories of their escapades onboard the Montauk that they both shared with our families until their dying day. I have pictures of the crossing of the equator. I have my fathers Our Navy posters from Neptunus Rex (Equator crossing) & Royal Order of the Dragon (International Dateline)both of which happened on the Montauk in December 1944. I'm sure my father and uncle must have known your father and the answer to your question.
