 My father-in-law, Edgar Hearn, served on the Pondera. What little I know is that he carried troops from ship to shore in boat 13, which was the only one left because no one else wanted #13. He didn't like to talk about the war or his experiences. He passed away on 3/4/08. He had a Navy buddy with the last name of Lewellen who has also passed away. They went to a couple of Pondera reunions several years ago.
