I understand the economic difficulties, but I really wonder if they can keep Hicks around, given the situation. Him quitting on the season and the team quitting on him, not to mention the student body giving up on both of them, would seem to be too much for even Ridley to ignore.

It seems to me that even if they were forced to eat Hicks' salary, there should be a way to get this done. We have a good business school, perhaps some creative accounting? Could we offer a new coach a guaranteed contract that is back-weighted like they do in pro sports?

For example (and I am just using round numbers), say we give a coach a four year deal that would pay $50k the first year, and $116k and change the remaining three, for an average of $100k a year. I realize it would be unconventional, but I am not convinced some bright young coach looking for a shot wouldn't go for it. Any thoughts?
