you need to hold down the mode and scan buttons simultaneously until the number 1000 appears, and then you would enter the code, if your code was 1462, you would not change the first number since it is already at "1" but then you would want to push the number "2" button until it gets to "4" and then the "3" until it reads "6" and the "4" until it says "2"
be careful not to mess up or it will lock up again, I think it only allows two, maybe three times of trying this and then you would have to wait a few hours for it to reset
