"We do have a desensitizing vaccination for her but only 50% to 70% of horses respond favorably to it. If you want to try that, it takes 6-7 months to respond to it, if she does. Meanwhile, sweet itch can be due to allergies, which is mostly caused by insect bites. When she goes out, you can put a hypoallergenic insect repellent on her that lasts a few days at the most. Ideal places to put it are the legs, girth, neck, and around the eyes. And when she's in the paddock, put a mesh blanket on her so the insects can't bite with insect repellent embedded in the blanket. When she's in the stable, ask Erin to put a fan above her stall so that the insects are forced away by the air movement. Would you like to try the vaccination?"
