Subject: *Meeting* (Jelonna?)

The stone steps were cool under her feet as she descended towards the kitchens from the heights of the hallways in the Riders Weyrs where the Weyrwoman was.

She'd certainly botched that one with the Weyrwoman. The female leader of the Weyr didn't seem too appreciative of her blunt appraisal no matter what had been said.
Jullila bit her lip for a moment and wondered if this was a wise idea, then forced it from her mind.

It was a wise idea.
What Weyr could afford to NOT have gardens of produce? It certainly saved Marks that would otherwise have gone to buy foodstuffs. She'd certainly heard the grumbling about Weyrs and Holds being fat and lazy off the sweat of PERN's few farmers. Having gardens here could only mollify those harsh opinions in the long run.
The soil here might be sandy but it was also volcanic in origin. This type of soil was some of the richest in PERN. One reason why crops fared better near old craters than elsewhere.

Jullila forced her thoughts to the present as she entered the huge Dining Hall with its tapestries and long wooden tables and benches. It was dark and cool in the high heat of the day. The bugling of young dragonets echoed from outside as they took their riders on their first flights through the air.

Pausing by the entrance to the kitchen she peered in to see if anyone might be the Headwoman.
