- Da Hatching! -- Zall, and flits., 10:05:24 03/28/05 Mon
Zall poked his head into the Hatching Grounds, and, seeing that no one was watching him, dashed in.
I'm twenty-one, older than most of the candidates here. Why am I nervous?
He tugged on his own braid, the red shining from his recent washing. He felt like a girl in this candidate's shift. It was a dress! And the braid didn't help either. At least the hint of a beard he was growing felt masculine.
I know why, because I want to Impress, and that's a odd thought for a journeyman tanner. And because I might be too old to Impress. But, there have been older candidates than me! Haven't there?
Tiger stirred- he was disturbing the hatchling. He stroked the smooth chocolate-coloured hide with a work-roughened finger. Tiger fell into deep sleep again.
Zall's hands resumed their fiddling with his braid, and he worried the leather tie off of the end. With the tie out of place, his hair began freeing itself from his braid. He let it, and began unworking his braid himself. The red hair hung to his waist now, rippling like any girl's. He hated to cut his hair because he liked.
Maybe a hatchling will Impress me?

- Hops onto the sands -- Kara / Maggi, 17:28:51 05/23/02 Thu
The girl hops onto the sands to maybe impress. The one factor that might keep her from that is she is a schizophrenic. Maggi her other self is extremely shy and little sense of humor. Kara is just her opposite. They have sandy-brown hair and grey eyes. They are 14 turns. They work together...sometimes. They're nose is too small they're eyes too far apart. They're lips too round. Well to them at least. All they know is that they aren't beauty queens and will never be so. However they AREN'T ugly.

- .::. Inside .::. -- Anneka, 17:06:58 02/27/02 Wed
The 15 year old blonde quietly slips in, head bowed, not wishing to meet anyone's eyes. As she walks, she shifts her weight from foot to foot, trying to avoid the heat of the sands. Even through the thickness of the wherhide boots, she can feel the hot sands roasting her feet.
As she approaches the group of girls, waves of self-doubt flow through her mind. Why would a dragon choose me? she thinks to herself. She sighs. The other girls look so prepared, cool, and collected. How she wishes she could be one of them! Anneka had never been able to speak her mind; it wasn't that she's embarrassed or nervous about speaking aloud, she's just quiet by nature. She had always made herself practically invisible, and today was no exception.
When she finally reaches the group, she stays at the outer edge. Glancing around at her surroundings, she notices the mammoth golden dragon. Suddenly, a wave of relief flows through her; somehow, just looking at the dragon calms her down. She grins for the first time today. Maybe she would have a chance at Impression. With new self-confidence and her eyes sparkling, she nods to the queen and the Weyrwoman and steps into the circle around the egg.
As she watches the other riders Impress their dragons, she crosses her fingers. With any luck, today would be her day to bond with one of the magnificent beings. She wouldn't have to hide in the shadows anymore; she would finally be special...not just some lost orphan. She quickly brushes the thoughts away, reminding herself not to count her flits before they hatch. She doesn't even dare to think about Impressing the gold, not wishing to jinx it. She'd be satisfied with any dragon: green, blue, or gold. Not that she was against Impressing the gold; she just wanted to Impress a dragon.
Absentmindedly, she scratches her arm where a seam in the robe comes into contact with her skin. She almost immeadiately stops, reminding herself to act ladylike, not like a little girl anymore. OUCH! she almost screams out loud. The fiery heat from the sands had penetrated the think soles of her wherhide boots, and her feet are cooking. She shifts her weight over to her left foot, away from the burning pain of her right. Silently, she reminds herself to get thicker boots for the next Impression, if she doesn't Impress this time.

- Entering -- Sira, 17:56:21 03/02/02 Sat
Taking long, purposeful strides, Sira crossed the hatching grounds confidently. The look on her face was the normal one for her, seeming indifference and calm. Her step halted in front of the eggs, and her feet neither shifted nor showed any sign of discomfort. Inside, she was feeling much different. The soles of her feet flared with pain, though she had prepared well and added another piece of leather to the bottoms of her sandals. Loosen up. The thought was the first that came to her mind. She relaxed her stiff stance, unfolding her arms and placing an appropriately apprehensive look on her face. You scowl too much, Sira! Try to look friendly for once. were her mother's pervasive instructions. For once, Sira knew it would come in handy.Forcing a tiny smile onto her face, she relaxed a little, though she did not consent to moving her feet to alleviate the pain. Now all her attention was focused on the clutch; or, more specifically, the queen egg. Sira had always been one to push herself hard, but eh matter of the queen dragonet was of her hands.
It annoyed her.
She'd always been taught that she could achieve her dreams, but this was different, dream though it was. The golden hatchling would choose her own person, and nothing could influence her choice. Sira knew that much about dragons, at least. Her highest goal was that of Impressing a gold, but she sure wouldn't' complain if she Impressed any other color.
Her thoughts wandered off to the day she'd first decided she wanted to become a dragonrider, the best day of all her twenty-two years.
"Sira! Sira, come quick!" had been her brother's cry. Sira, glad for any interruption, had fairly thrown her sewing work down and raced outside of the Hold. (She'd later been told that running in a long skirt was very unladylike.) She’d stopped short outside the Hold’s stone walls, looking around for her brother. He was standing next to the wall, shading his eyes with his hand and looking out at the sky. Sira walked over to him, and he instantly grabbed her arm and pointed. “Look!” he hissed, his voice shrill with excitement. Sira shaded her eyes, too, and looked out over the hieghts. “There’s nothing there, Fellen,” she’d told him. He shook his head. “Keep looking!” he repeated. Sira turned back to the hights. After a moment, a flash of red-orange burst over the hieghts. Flame, searing the greenery from the hieghts. A flash of blue; then nothing. Fellen watched wide-eyed. “A dragon,” he’d whispered. Sira hadn’t been listening. She leaned back against the Hold wall and silently made a promise.
Someday she’d ride a dragon.
Well, Fellen had made the same promise, Sira thought ruefully. If only he’d not kept it! Aye, he’d been Searched, and Impressed a fine blue. And then the cursed sickness took him. Sira thrust that thought away from herself as if it was a poisonous tunnel snake. She’d not think of him, or the long-suppressed tears would overflow. Her attention focused again on the clutch, and she silently willed a dragonet to break free and choose her.

- Entrance to the Hatching Grounds... -- Kaiya, 11:27:57 03/16/02 Sat
The seventeen Turn old girl enters the Hatching Grounds, pointed chin held high, not even flinching as the heat strikes her callused feet through her thin sandals. A small smile plays about the corners of her lips, but her eyes hint at a great sorrow. Those somber eyes were fixated on the clutch of lightly mottled eggs, and the eggs lure her forward. Her slow progress forward came to an abrupt halt as she caught sight of something she had not excepted: The Queen egg, still unhatched. Somewhere deep within her Kaiya felt the tattered remains of her dreams of being a dragonrider begin to piece themselves together again, and her mind skips back to the day, not very long ago, when those dreams had been shattered.
Dear Kaiya,
Your sister Sol has caught the plague. Please come. We are staying near Fort Weyr. She might die. That cryptic note from an anonymous fire-lizard had been what had led to the inevitable crushing of her dreams. She could not, in consciousness, abandon her sister, no matter what it cost her. Resolutely she had let go of the elusive dream that had sustained her throughout childhood, and that finally appeared about to become reality, and left the Weyr to seek out her sister. On her way out, she had bumped into the rider who had Searched her out, and, after listening to her woes, announced that he would personally transport her to Fort Weyr. Even though she had never even learned his name, or his dragon’s, Kaiya was eternally grateful to the kind man, for without his assistance, she might have never reached Sol in time.
Kaiya was brought suddenly back to reality by the fact her eyes had grown increasingly heated and moist. After roughly drying them on the sleeve of her Impression robe, her mind was enveloped once more by the memories.
After much inquiring about Fort Weyr, she found her sister staying in a remote cothold near Fort Hold. The first thing she had done after querying if her sister was there, and getting an affirmative, was to demand to be able to see her. She had been lead directly to a tiny room, not much more than a closet, really, and it was there that she saw Sol, lying prone on one of the few articles of furniture, the bed. Afterwards she almost wished she hadn’t requested to see Sol, for the change wrought in the girl was heartrending. The vibrant, animated girl had wasted away to a shadow of her former self. All of her inexhaustible energy was gone, and only the shell of Kaiya’s sister was left. Sol lay, deathly still; her chest moving so shallowly it seemed she was not breathing at all. After a moment of paralyses invoked by shock, Kaiya was kneeling beside her sister, grasping one of Sol’s limp, frail hands in her strong ones, almost crushing the limb in her desperation to pour life into Sol once more. Ever since she had received word of her sister’s illness, Kai had never really been able to believe that her seemingly invulnerable sister was truly in danger, but in that instant kneeling by the cot in some stranger’s hold, the truth washed across her like an ice-cold wave: Her sister was in great peril. But then, as she clung to her sister, something odd happened- Namely, Sol’s eyes fluttered open, and met Kaiya’s squarely. Although the once brilliant hazel eyes were sunken deeply in their sockets and their color had faded to a placid mud-brown, but they did not waver in their gaze, and the fact that Sol was awake at all heartened Kai greatly. “You came!” The barely audible whisper did so much to lift her spirits that Kaiya really did believe her sister would live. For a moment.
***
Days slowly trickled by, and it seemed that Sol was regaining some of her former vigor. But the day came when the last of Kai’s hopes were stolen away from her. It had happened in the same dim cubby where she found Sol that first day. Behind the closed door of the miniscule room, the two girls deep in conversation, minds soaring on the winds of imagination. The current topic of their drifting attention was dragons: The magnificent guardians of their planet. But suddenly Sol said something that instantly broke her reverie. “Kai?” Making sure she had her sister’s attention, Sol hurriedly said, “Will you someday try to Impress again? You left Benden’s hatching because of me, and I know how much you wanted to Impress. Do it for me, please, Kai, ‘cause I won’t have a chance to stand on the Hatching Grounds.” Slightly bewildered, Kai nodded and agreed, but before Kaiya had a chance to puzzle out the cryptic end to her sister’s speech, Sol gave a halting little sigh, and left Kai alone in the room. Later Kaiya wondered how she had known that instant that her sister had died, for all was the same in the tiny space- Sol was still sprawled on the bed, eyes closed as they had been when they were talking about dragons, and throughout Sol’s ‘speech’- and yet everything had changed.
Kaiya wrenched herself out of those unwelcome memories, hastily flicking the tears that hastened to overflow her eyes away. With her mind firmly planted in the present, she strode across the Sands, joining the knot of Candidates. To any that looks her way, she simply smiles and nods a greeting, but remains silent. Her eyes are locked on the eggs, for in one of the little ovoids the fulfillment of her promise to Sol, and her own dreams might lie. Flashing grin to those who were already walking off the Sands with a dragon, she settles down to wait.

- Hmm... -- Jai - Kej, 14:18:44 03/04/02 Mon
After oiling her small bronze firelizard, she had decided to explore, that being second nature to her and had stumbled upon the entrance to the Sands. At first, she wanted to dart back inside to the safety of the darkness like a Tunnel Snake, but curiousity held her at bay and she carefully advanced. Stopping hardly half a dragon's length away from the canidate circle, not wishing to disturb anyone. Kej seemed just as still as she was, instantly tense at sighting the Queen towering above the clutch, and at his impressors own fear. She sighed, wistfully, telling herself over, if she watched this clutch, no matter how much of a waste of time it may be, she could get on to more important things, hopefully her fear of dragons seared and ash, so to speak. Besides, she reasoned, at the Hatching feast she could stock up on provisions, and borrow a few things... She chuckled, causing Kej to jump, then resettled himself upon her other shoulder, deeming the left one unworthy. Why was she so sharding afraid of those over grown flits? She had no reason to fear them other then what she had heard, how the hatchlings sometimes attacked other canidates severly... How the dragonriders stopped many of the Renegades. What if they found her? Would they carry her between and leave her? She scowled, chiding herself for being so childish, that was Wherry's Teeth, all of it, just Wherry's Teeth. And to her surprise, Kej agreed.

- impress? -- Randin, 12:31:32 03/03/02 Sun
A tall gangly boy of about fifteen turns entered the hatching sands, his slightly too short candidates robe only coming down to just above his knees. He shivered slightly as a gust of wind swished about him ruffling his raven black hair. He took a few steps wincing at the heat from the sands. He took another step and then another till his feet got used to the temperature. He started to smile slightly wandering what his mother and father would say if they could see him now, wearing a white candidates robe and aiming to impress a dragon. He chuckled slightly and watched the other candidates wandering if he was too late to impress. He wasn't the most punctual of people. He took a deep breath and willed himself to impress. Weakness was a bad sign to a dragon and even though he could feel his heart punding away in his chest he needed to put on a brave face and try. For K'rens sake if not for his own.

- Shifts -- Aless, 14:05:45 03/02/02 Sat
Stifling the urge to sigh impatiently, Aless instead began shifting from foot to foot--discreetly, of course. To occupy her time, she begins looking at the other Candidates. There seemed to be a lot of shy people here, she noticed. Marea would fit right in. Shards, she wished she knew if Marea had Impressed or if she was still standing ont he sands...A scowl flickered across her face. It's no good wishing so just think about something else. Like the dragons. Now that was a topic she'd gladly think about. Mentally, she began compiling everything she knew about dragons. Let's see...greens were the smallest, then blues, browns, bronzes, and of course, the queens. Her mind latched onto the thought. A queen! Her eyes unconciously were fixed upon the golden egg, and as soon as she realized it, she looked at the rest of the clutch instead. No use dwelling on it, she mentally chided herself. Any color is perfect for me. Except bronze. But still she couldn't help her gaze from wandering to the magnificent queen standing guard over her clutch. Even though the gold's wings were folded, she could tell that the queen had a huge wingspan. What glory it must be to ride a creature that huge and beautiful! She envied the Weyrwoman with all her heart, but knew that she herself had a chance to Impress...even the queen.

- *Hopeful* -- Kaile, 16:33:30 02/27/02 Wed
*the girl enters quietly, her blue eyes stealing over the clutch quickly. The gold one catches her eye, and she quickly dismisses the thought. Surely, out of all these people, the gold would not be her bonded. Why was she any different than them? She let her gaze travel over the rest of them, but after only a few eggs they would jerk back to the gold. Give it up, Kaile. It's more than likely not yours. But still, it would be awesome if it was! But that's not likely to happen so why don't you hope for something else? true. A blue, green, or bronze would be great, but that golden... Enough about the golden! A war rages in her mind. She patiently waits for an egg- her egg to hatch. Which one's my favorite? Gold. Give it up. Something else... green, perhaps? gold. Or blue? She sighs. Deep in her heart she'd love the golden, but she knew it was likely to never happen. Blue or green would be great. But, whatever I get I'll be happy with! She finally decided in her mind. With a slight sigh she patienly waits for her bonded to hatch*

- < > T O O Y O U N G < > -- Cara, 17:41:01 02/28/02 Thu
A girl took a careful step. One foot was on the Hatching Sands. She smiled to herself, and then took a step back. That would be something to tell her brother, anyways. Except that he would probably yell at her for it. She was to young to be a Canidate yet; she was only eleven Turns. She sighed. To Impress was all that she wanted. Be it Green, Blue, or - did she dare think it - Gold. To suddenly turn around, see an egg shaking, the shards of the egg go flying, a small dragonet taking it's first few wobbly steps, approaching her. It's whirling eyes would fill your mind, as it would tell you it's name, that you two would be together forever.
Cara minced her way up to the stands, where she took a seat up high, out of the way. Just like her brother told her. She sighed slightly, making a face as she thought of him as she always did, and then brought her legs up, putting her chin on her knees as she sat, looking below, thoughts sneaking into her mind. Maybe a dragonet would hatch, and go wandering amongst the sands, not satisfied with any of the other Canidates, untill she, Cara, came down, and Impressed the Dragon. A small smile crossed her face at the thought. Of course that wouldn't happen to her... would it?

- Nervous -- Aless, 04:56:22 02/28/02 Thu
Watching the eggs, she almost jumps in surprise when the blue hatches. Blue...now there's a fine color! she thinks. Though, nothing could be more magnificent than a gold...or even a bronze...oh, give it up. she thinks with a mental snort. Only males Impress bronzes! You know that. Think of what trouble there'd be if a girl Impressed a bronze and he flew the queen! She took another step towards the eggs, carefully stepping around the shattered pieces of a hatched egg. Wouldn't do to slice her foot wide open and have to leave.

- Excitment -- Elspeth, 20:21:53 02/27/02 Wed
Unknowingly Elspeth had held her breath as the egg hatched the blue. Her heart rose as it's gaze wandered over to her. As the little dragon chose Angele she let out her breathe, disappointed but glad for her friend. Shifting again she looked at the gold and the other candidates. There were some that she could tell where siblings and she longed for her half brother to see her now. A candidate! And maybe she would become a DragonRider. She sighed remembering her brother.
"Elli! Look! A firelizard!" The little boys chubby face was filled with joy and pride. "Wow, Jaren! A bronze too!" The little flitt crooned and rubed his face against Jaren's cheek. His bronze hide reflected the sun and Elspeth grinned reaching out to scratch his eye ridge. "Your brilliant however young you are."
A look of sadness crossed her face before she turned back to the eggs. Jaren had cried when she told him she was running away but he'd told no one. But.. The plague..
Clearing her mind of the memories she turned back to the Gold. She really wouldn't mind any colour as long as she Impressed. Though she had wistfully thought of Impressing a gold she knew that she didn't deserve it. Any dragon would be perfect. She had always admired the greens for their agility and speed. Shrugging more to herself she looked at the other candidates on the sand, shifting again from foot to foot.
(Do I do this memory thing too much? I think it's easier to tell the past when their doing this.. Hehe.. o.O))

- ~inside~ -- Maya, 13:28:30 02/26/02 Tue
*she walks across the sand and looks back almost nerviously. What if she wouldn't impress? She usually isolated herself, staying away from others, so she never made any friends. Why would a dragon be impressed by her if people weren't? Maya fights the urge to just walk away and stay the way she normally is. Turning back the way she came, she takes one step away, then another. But she shakes her head. It was miserably lonely with noone to talk to. She turns once again and starts taking slow step by slow step todards the dragon eggs. Her heart pounded in her chest, being afraid to be humiliated in front of others. She'd always been afraid that people would laugh at her and that if she approached anyone, she'd be even more of an outcast than she already is*
((If you haven't figured it out yet, she has a phobia. I forget what its called though. the one where you're afraid to be embarrassed by other people.))

- Candidate... -- Angele, 16:06:45 02/25/02 Mon
The blue haired firl enters, ((OCC: This time, an actual Candidate ^o^)) her eyes glimmering with hope and wonder, excitement shoing in every move her body made.
Giving her head a shake, just to wake herself up, she gave a wily grin, her eyes searching the Sand for a friendly looking face to chat withb while she waited.
Shen was not a short person- atually, quite tall, with a husky build built for carry, loading; a real pack horse. Her face was of a palid side, a huge, impossible- almost insane- grin plastered on her face.
She scratched at her robe with disgust, deciding to hate the thing emediately. I hate all these bloody robes. I mean, why couldn't they be blue? I like blue.
She shook her head. Not to mention the things are incredibly itchy. Then, her eyes caught on the eggs, the glistening gold, she paused on for a second, then, turned to what she hoped was a blue egg.
She loved blues. Finding them without boundaries, completely free, and a personal asset (in her mind) to the Weyr, she liked them. But, then again, that could be because of color as well.
Still...
Her eyes wandered back to the gold, an amused eyebrow twitching upwards. Gold is also nice, then again...
Back to blue, she smiled. Blue was her true love. IF she didn't Impress, she'd understnad. She wouldn't mind Impressing green, or even gold, but she did prefer the blue. The idea of being a bronze or brown rider amused her more. Then she shook her head. Impossible.
Returning her wandering eyes again tot eh Candidates, she looked to the closest one, walked up to them, and greeted them with a chipper, "Heyas!"

The crimnson eyed, blonde haired girl entered, hot-footing it out onto the Sands, and seeing, in mild surprise, that the hatching had already started. shook her head, a goofy grin plastered on her face.
The girl was of tall stature, with muscled arms and legs- the results of scaling many a cliffs, along with her younger twin sister.
She smiled. She hoped Sacriaye would be alright on her own. After all, the twins were always meant to seperate on thier own paths oneday- but not so unexpectedly.
Sundrae smiled, watching the eggs with fascination, eyes widening at the gold. A gold! The girl couldn't beleive her eyes. She had only seen a gold egg once in her life- herself being Weyrbred- and it continued to fascinate her.
She remembered, once when just a little girl, a gold firelizard. She had found it, wounded and alone on the cliffs, and she and her sister took the dear thing in for awhile.
It was wild, and the girls had hoped to tame her, but alas, it was not to be.
Fate, it seems, stole the sickly lizard away from the two children and left them heart-broken, but this made the golden-haired one even more ambitioned to oneday helpsomeone, help something. Be of use to a person.
She looked to the eggs, hoping with all her might that her destiny be in them. "If not," she added, "I can always try and be a healer. After all, healer's help many. And healing isn't such a bad pass-time."
Sundrae sighed, hopping from one foot to another, eyes widened at the heat of the sands. Why was it so sharding hot here? Sure, warmth was nice, she rather liked it, but this, this hurt almost!
Still bouncing from foot to foot, the girl shook her head, and for the third time upon entering, her gaze fell on the eggs.
She watched as the queen dragon curled protectively around the golden orb, and she smiled. A mother's instincts were often the best ones.
Her mind wandered into thought, and the girl, slipping into daydream, dreampt of the day that she could do something that would leave a mark on Pern, a wonderful, unforgotten mark.

Ah, now that would be luck if I got a gold. But with so many here, why would it choose me? Surely I'm no different than the others. She looks over the whole clutch, a faint smile on her face. Her eyes linger on the blues and greens, but from egg to egg each time she glances at the gold. Kaile give it up. There's hardly a chance in this world that you'd impress a gold. But still there is a small glimmer of hope in her otherwise un-optimistic thoughts. She shakes her head, staying a ways back from the other hopefuls but still close enough to be noticed by any hatchling emerging from its egg. Perhaps a blue, or a green! Wouldn't that be awesome. My second choice, perhaps, of a color. Blue or green? She mulls it over quietly. Did it really matter? Of course! But still, she hopes for the best, finally deciding she'd be happy if she impressed at all. So she waits until the time came for another to hatch, and hopes with all her soul to impress*

Better hurry up, you don't want to miss it! The thought echoes through Aless' mind as she races to the hatching grounds, the skirt of the white Cnadidate's dress whipping around her legs as she ran. Silently she counts the seconds that the humming has been going, and decides she still has a good chance of making it in time. She slams to a halt in the enterance of the grounds, nervously pushing her hair back from her face and peering in. Breathing a sigh of relief that she wasn’t too late, she braces herself and steps onto the sands. At least she was ready for the heat which blossomed under her sandals. Her gaze moves from one person to another, then down to the ground in disapointment. Marea, whom she had been hoping to find, wasn’t there. She must be at Benden. Aless though dejectedly. Quickly she cheered up. She would get to see her twin later, whether they Impressed or not. She just hoped that Marea would make a friend so she wouldn’t be so sharding lonely all the time without Aless! She began moving swiftly towards the clutch, noting that a few dragons had already burst free. Briefly she wondered why she was so calm, but decided not to dwell on it or she’d reverse the fact.

- New.. -- Elspeth, 00:45:29 02/25/02 Mon
The tall girl of 15 walked onto the sand, imediatly feeling the heat through her sandles. She bowed to the Queen and look her place on the sands, fighting the urge to move about. Her blue-green gaze swept over the eggs. [28! Wow.. and a queen!] She smiled to herself as she stole a glance at the magnificent golden dragon. What magnificent creatures.. Would there be a dragon in there for her? Her mother's face flitted through her mind.
"Elspeth, dear. You must choose one.. They're all quite suitable.." Elspeth scowled, turning away from her mother. "You know they only want father's land. I refuse to be paired with one who doesn't love me and not the land I bring to the pairing." Her mother smiled again, one eyebrow raised. "You refuse? What do you mean dear? You know that you must marry.. And not everyone gets what they want.. You can't do anything about it.." Elspeth excused herself, thinking quickly..
Shaking her head she watched the eggs again. Two weeks after she had left the desease struck.. Leaving no one. Elspeth sighed and looked back to the present. But she was here now. Elspeth smiled as loose strands of red/blonde hair fell into her face. Brushing it away impatiently she remembered her brother's smiling face. She sighed again. His death was the one which caused her the most hurt. Shaking her head she turned back again. Maybe she would find a friend or two today..

A little blue jumps out of between a not attached to his leg. He looks around for Nian, the Weyrwomen here.
(Heres what the note says)
Dear Nian,
I heard Caylith had a clutch, how many? Kariths clutch consisted of 30 and a Queen! Are you alright? D'nion is getting worse daily though I still seem imune to this sickness. Silvana had a fine little clutch so I sent D'nions blue. He is a chirpy little fellow but won't leave till you feed him. His name is Mimo.
*Luv Mara*

- ~* Inside *~ -- Myron, 12:28:33 02/22/02 Fri
Step...drag. Step...drag. Myron slowly comes out onto the Sands of Fort Weyr. He was tall, and he held himself up straight. He had short cut brown-black hair and his eyes were a deep midnight blue. His skin was lightly tanned from being outside often. Seemingly normal, except that he had been caught in a runner accident, leaving him with an ugly scar on his left cheek and a left leg that was almost useless, that could barely be walked upon at all. Embarressing, but he had wanted to badly to Impress that his father wouldn't have stopped him coming for all of Pern. His father had let him come, and Myron would try his best to Impress; be it Green, Blue, Brown, or a Bronze, he would try, and figure out how he would get upon the Dragon later. Feeling the heat upon him, he winced slightly but said nothing even though he started to sweat, and then he felt the sudden pang of a memory.
::Myron was suddenly on a forest path, the sun was bright but under the trees it didn't seem to be so bad, for the trees' shadows were keeping himself and his Runner cooled off. Then suddenly he heard a noise up ahead. His Runner balked for a moment, but Myron encouraged her forward. Five minutes more passed, but then suddenly the Runner was rearing upwards. Myron was thrown off backwards, and and he felt himself go flying through the air, heard his Runner hit the ground with a loud crash and then felt himself hit the ground, landing on his left side. He felt a firey pain shoot through him, and then everything went black...::
Myron blinked, realizing that he was on the Hatching Sands at Kinia, not on a Runner again. He hadn't been able to get back up on one since the accident. One reason he hadn't wanted to stay at home, for his family raised Runners. Many nights when he fell asleep he found himself reliving when he had fallen, every night he felt the terror anew. He turned his head, looking at the Dragon Eggs. Perhaps one would be meant for him, help him get over this...

Caylith alighted on the sands, her golden body shone and gleamed fresh from oiling, she visabley preened at the sight of her freshly laid eggs, 28 of them, a smug look flashed across her face. A large egg, far larger than the others shown gold in the light - a queen egg, There were quite a few large eggs also - most likely bronzes. Cayliths wings protected her clutch as she watched the hatching sands, any day now the first candidates would arrive and impress the eggs, She 'nosed' at them, harding allready. A small hand rested apon her large fore-leg, Caylith her head down to be eye to face with the Weyrwoman,Nian, the one she had impressed.Nian smiled slightly, her eyes full of love and care for the gold
{Such a wonderful Clutch - and a Queen! 'tis your fist one as well my love, you have done well}
-I know..- Cayliths voice was smug as she answered. Nian turned and waited for the candidates to arrive........
