Yes, David, but tie this in with the saying that the [reward] for sinning is [spiritual] death.
..... As I understand it you have to be "tuned in" to God in order to communicate with God (= the Holy Spirit - God is one of many spirits), but those who keep sinning are automatically excommunicated, no longer in communication with God.
..... Members of the Kingdom of God, as part of the entrance procedures, had to vow to OBEY God, and to do their best to sin no more. Then at the end of these procedures came baptism during which all of their sins were washed away, and they were then sinless as long as they "behaved themselves". While sinless they were "filled" with the spirit of God, meaning they were then (again?) open to communications with God.
