Subject: Thoughts after watching Once Upon A Time

This episode is typical of how Charmed is so not Buffy or Angel. You see, people tend to bunch the three together, as if they had so much in common that one could easily confuse either one of them. "Once Upon A Time" disproves this in many ways: First, it's not afraid to show more light-hearted fare; Buffy and Angel have taken some notes and incorporate some of the Charm-ier stuff in their storyline, but they're basically still darker shows. Second, it's a Spelling production. So expect a character's love problems to be dragged out longer than in other shows. Third, they don't have the budget or the know-how to effect more elaborate settings and actions like the other two. It's a show for people who like to take a break from the heavy stuff, which explains part of its popularity.

As to the episode itself, there's a lot of rehashed ideas involved in many scenes. Prue and Phoebe acting like children would be rehashed before in episodes like "That 70s Ep" and "P3H2O." Leo coming back to Piper has been done before in such episodes as "Awakened", "Murphy's Luck" and "Love Hurts." There are many more examples, but I can't remember them yet. This episode itself would be similar to the "Ladyhawk" episodes, in which what happens in the background has much more significance to what happens in the foreground. There's Cole scheming to get the BoS. There's Pheebs now getting desperate and wanting to date Cole, not knowing his true intentions yet. Then there's Prue morphing into the "middle sister", leaving behind the corporate persona she used to have in the first season and up to the middle of last season. I have this hunch that as long as Prue keeps changing the way she has that with her latter persona she could not possibly fall in love with someone like Andy. Andy was drawn to Prue by the way she carried herself back then, which was the "old" Prue. How would she react to the same old Andy? Something to think about.

I guess it makes some sense, being the month of Halloween, that a story involving fairies and trolls be told. Also, they're trying to appeal to both younger folk and folk like me with the same episode. I just don't know whether that kind of formula could work in the long run. Finally, I can't finish these thoughts without commenting on the new twist to this Leo/Piper love story. Huh?????????????? Can somebody help me as to what Piper might have said or done that made the Elders change their minds?

Other thoughts:
-So now Piper adds "babysitter" to her various job titles. Hehehe...LOL...:)
-"If you're happy and you know it...." Um, sorry. I was thinking about something else. :D
-So how many outfits has Alyssa worn to date? :)

Best Line:

Prue: Well...falling down the stairs made us sober.
