[. a mere shadow marks the lupine presence, looming ominously out of sight, concealed by the thick foliage bordering the clearing. in a flash of snow tinted canvas, the slender frame of the alpha gem is thrown out from the shadows and into the sun-washed circle, clear of vegetation. specs focus on the ashen hare, formerly nibbling on the greens, ignorant to all around it. the smaller beast bounds away, off through the underbrush and it’s pursuer gives chase. quads of the female sink, bringing her frame close to the ground, meeting the sod without a sound as pace is pressed, easily overtaking the hare. jowls gape and a muffled snarl is pushed from the lungs of the larger animal with a warm gust of air. with a flash of glistening enamels, the jaws of the lupine close around the neck of her prey, wringing it of life with a quick fatal puncture. pace dwindles and the jewel turns back toward the den and the others, the limp carcass suspended with an iron like grip. bodice sinks to the soil against the outside of the den and enamels sink into the lifeless flesh, consuming nearly the entire animal, much more than her normal fill. her nourishment was far more important now that her slight, nimble statue would soon grow heavy with the bulk of her offspring. they would be the first litter of the season sired by the alpha. tongue lolls lazily from open jowls, crossing roughly over pearl pelt, ridding it of crimson stains. with a contented sigh, quads bear weight of the fem again and figure crosses the short stretch of sod to the front of the den where her haunches fold, bringing the alpha into a crouch. furtive gaze sweeps from one unfamiliar form to another, analyzing and ever watching… .]
