I'm pleased to announce, & happy to report, I've kept it below 200# for a month (for me, a record, of some sort).
Some years ago I was a bit to the north of 260 when I found I had entered myself in the famed Diabetic Prostate-infection Sweepstakes. Neither condition had been part of any diagnosis before then. I inferred 260 as my "health-alarm" weight, but from then until this New Year's, I'd been barely holding 245__250#. Under threat of another prescription, I threw the book at my blood-glucose & merely kept an eye on my weight.
Now it oscillates about a mean of 197# (give-or-take) while my glucose numbers are between 97 mg/dl and 115. My Doctor is delighted--as are my still-complaining knees when I do a flight of stairs.
There is a school (?) of thought on weight-management that denounces the household scale and preaches that weight should be ignored. The Navy taught that for the last decade I was in. Upon reflection, I believe that smacks of a recipe for unpleasant surprises. Most of us don't notice that 2# to 5# gain that STAYS, by what we see in the mirror, because we see it every day. Were we to notice, before it grew to "justify" coercive, public "correction" via some euphemistically-named program--
--those whose appetite for cheap power over others is fed BY such a program would have to go back to their day-jobs & earn that power the hard way. This seems to explain plausibly the preaching of the ignore-the-scale doctrine. The scale would show you that small increase, before it quietly becomes a larger one that takes longer to fix.
I step on the scale just about every morning, after the bathroom but before ingesting anything. If it's up a pound or 2 from last time, that's cause for ATTENTION but not for ALARM. Water being a tick over 8# per U.S. gallon, 3# is literally a piddling amount and I might drop as much as 4# in a single go. It's when that couple of pounds remains more than 24 hours that I need to explore its origins. Thus I have been able to correct minor sins before they become well-entrenched vices (again).
One other secret I'm confident I can share: *IF* you can tolerate its ingredients (chicory among those), my surrogate vice is Celestial Seasonings® "Apple Cinnamon Spice" herbal tea, with a single fake-sugar. RKBA! Best regards, all.
