Pat - Jan,
In case you didn't write it down last night or forgot, here is the site for that Bagpipe Program (Electric Pipes).
www.Bakedbean.co.nz
Just download the "DEMO" program. It will let you play the tunes along with the visual screen aide (follow the bouncing ball). The "DEMO" will also let you change the tune's tempo but it does not allow you to print a copy. Once you get the program up and running, I can send you (either by E-mail or disk) all of the band tunes that Jimmy had and we can even work on getting the new ones done.
Try it out and let me know what you think. It might be worth while and if so then we can pass it on the the rest of the gang and hopefully get them to practice more often and more precisely. I spoke to the guy (Andrew) who runs this site and he also advises me that he is currently working on another portion of the program that will write Drum settings for his tunes. I'm sure you can see the possibilities and rewards to that. I (courtesy of the NCPD Pipe Band) have a full version of this program and will be getting the "Drummers Upgrade" as soon as it's available.
Last night's student practice went well. Getting the "Kids" to sit still is always a challange (please don't give them sweets prior to practice).
In the early group (the ROOKIES), Peggy was absent (parents - teachers night at school). John & Katie are now working on the early stages of their "Doublings" and doing well. I hope to have them on a few tunes by around Thanksgiving. Peggy, John has copies of the "new stuff" for you.
In the later group (the GRASSHOPPERS), (can you imagine Paul as a Grasshopper?!!), Paul was absent (something called a job I think) we worked on Rowan Tree again and its comming along pretty good. Colleen should use this one if she competes in Grade V next year. Charlie is doing really well on his pipes. I have a "New" small bag for Liam and I will have it tied in tonight. His Mom will stop by my office Friday to pick it up so Liam will be able to get into full swing on his pipes over the weekend.
I think that these folks (all four of them) should be ready for the street by St. Patrick's Day and maybe sooner. They have a few things left to learn but, IF THEY KEEP ON PRACTICING, they can make it. We covered "Taorluaths" last night and like most of us, pronounciation was difficult. I told them about one of Don's students down in Florida who is six years old and also working on them. He calls them "Too - da - loodies" and Don tells me he plays the really well. I think the name is catching on. Execution is the issue, we'll worry about what their called later. Paul, can call them whatever he likes.
What I really want them to focus on with their pipes is STEADY BLOWING, which is what we were practicing when we were marching up and down the hall. We ARE NOT INTO PLAYING TUNES YET, so if any of the family members hear these guys trying to play tunes, PLEASE, remind them that they should be working on Steady Blowing. Tunes will come along soon enough after we get this issue resolved. Good practice gang. Keep up the good work. Remember, high standards produce great results. See you next week.
