I don't think pop music should be banished forever cos let's face it, most people don't want to listen to smog or someone when they're listening to the radio or going up broad st. to av a laugh and don't give a flying fuck if musics manufactured or the people have had to struggle for years to get there.
I give a fuck and i hate the way fame academy is trying to manufacture 'real musicians' (Hey! he writes his own songs!) which is all bullshit.
Okay I haven't got a clue why thousands of people have gone and bought the cheeky girls but it'll be gone by the end of jnuary and we can forget about it.
Daniel Bedignfield may make his own music in his room but he's a class A cunt and he made 2 of the most irritating sinlges of the year (Especially James Dean - AAAAARGH!!!)
But there is the odd pop record I can stand, the tune ain't too bad and all that, I don't go out and buy em but I don't mind if they come on the radio (although it gets a bit much 20 times in 7 hours) or in a club or whatever. Things like Freak Like Me (I actually really like that one), that Justin Timberlake song's okay (excpet the chorus) quite experimental for someone in NfuckingSync, and that latest Kylie one ain't too bad, nor is can't get you outta my head. They aren't influences or things I think a lot about, they're just ok songs. Every so often one sticks it head out of the fucking millions of dreadful DJ... with some bird and usual gareth/will/blue shite. Things like My Name Is, Rewind, Don't Stop Movin', etc. i hate all their other stuff and it probably sounds shite now but at the time, it was okay.
It's not all the devils sperm. Fake gangsta twats like Ja Rule are, all manufactured bands are shite, and people who win these competitions are shit. But so are 'proper bands' like Nickelback, Stereophonics (they're too wound up on being 'proper' man), countless NY/Detroit/NZ blues/garage/retro cunts with long hair and denims (UGH!), the happily smallening breed of supposedly dumb middle-class US palmmuted power chord skapunkskate wankers.
If THAT's what real music's come to I'd rather fucking go to some fucking hard house night.
Or maybe not...
ROCK music is shit and it always has been, the Birmingham ROCK scene as I've seen in XLs, Eddies etc. makes me physcially sick. 50 year olds in trenchoats pissed off their heads on brown ale staggering round to some fucking horrendous 80s metal like Def Fucking Leppard?!!! WHAT?!!! The younguns are all onto it too. It's horrible. And indie music's faring no better at the mo, all the decent bands about are technically fucking ancient. Weller, Oasis, Radiohead, Supergrass, Ashcroft, I love em all but they've been going so long! The only really fucking great new groups about are Coldplay and The Streets, I used to love the coral but the lp was dissapointing. And don't talk to me bout the fucking Music!
Maybe I expect too much.
Anyway, pick and choose, as the geezer on that primal scream song says: 'We know that music is music'. And so it is.
Why do I always go on forever?
