In reply to: 'The Cactus Kid' 's message, "Isn't Anyone Out There Still Cactusing???" on 01:22:54 07/16/04 Fri

Since the discovery of the vicious bacterium Mycobacterium neuronensis on the spines of 137 various and divers species of cacti (at last count), it is no surprise that message input is so low into groups where cacti are the prime interest.
The Mycobacterium family includes the species that causes Leprosy and another species M ulcerans, is the cause of the horrific and currently incurable necrotic lesions known as the Bairnsdale or Daintree ulcer.
M neuronensis as the name implies lives in cerebral neurones and is also a very slow acting bacterium. . Those persons who grow Cacti and occasionally are pricked by spines will mostly be infected. It is therefore no surprise that most cacti specialists are almost brain-dead about two to three decades after contracting the disease.
Fortunately there is a simple cure.
Cheers Didge
