Subject: ponytail flowering times

Im writing from perth and have kept an eye on the local ponytails (baucairnia's) for some years now.
This year many plants across the city have recently come into bloom. I know that these guys are shy to bloom at best but have never seen anything like this.
the bulk of the plants in bloom are quite young ie under the
the 2m mark. One in particular was not even 1m tall.
Is this a mast year for this plant in other parts of oz?
Have many out there seen a similar thing in other years?
Is this just that there are so many out there in gardens
that they are now noticed ?
Why didnt my lazy ones not bloom ?(only joking)
Regards Iain
