The colt shivered, his eyes straining to open. Light spread quickly and he gasped slamming them shut. He squirmed momentarily while trying desperately to grasp something with his hooves. They stretched out and clicked against something much more sturdy. His eyes flew open and into the blinding light saw the massive chestnut stallion, his father, standing over him. He squeaked in terror at first, but the immediatly began crying for his mother. Small whimper fled through his damp and bloody nostrils, his eyes held a fluent streak of fear. He drew away from the filly in his attempt to seek his mother and try as he might could not stand up. Finally he quit moving and lay still, though still allowing his voice to flee from his vocals.

She drew her muzzle away, fearing her friend would die alone in the cold. She looked at her, her pale blue eyes pondering. Then out of nowhere she felt a sudden urge to get back to her colt. Something inside of her said he was in trouble, almost a sixth sense. She couldn't leave Bitter's side, but at the same time she feared the worst for her child.
