Subject: Communication with IDL students

Up to now I have always struggled with keeping in touch with my independent learning students (IDL). I tried something this summer that has worked. Here at NRCC we require IDL students to send in an introduction letter to the professor. I required my students to send me the letter via e-mail during the first week of classes. I then made a folder in my e-mail program for each course. By putting student's e-mail addresses in the proper folder, I am now able to communicate with the whole class with a click of the mouse. This has worked marvelously well.
