Blackboard offers up to three courses online for free. So you can use it even if your school has not bought a site license. You can also use any part of the package you want. For example, I am considering using the testing feature of the program. They are coming out with a new edition in a few weeks, so I am waiting to see how the new version works.
One feature I need is that the tests will have to be timed and a student will only be able to take it once. Other schools I know of are doing this and allowing open book tests. Wythville Community College does testing online, but requires their students to come on campus to take the comprehensive final exam. I think that is a good idea.
I am using the William McEachern book, Economics - A Contemporary Introduction, by Southwestern Publishing for my principles of Economics course and am using the the Irvin Tucker book, Economics for Today, for my Survey of Economics course. The Tucker book is also published by Southwest. I am the author for his PowerPoints that come along with the textbook.
