Date Posted: 16:07:18 03/07/02 Thu ST LOUIS-After having a very poor performance in the UHA preaseason, the St. Louis Blues have turned it up as they have gone 3-1 in their first four games in the UHA. Many people quoted GM Steve Abrahamsen as saying, "It's only preseason." Many news columnists held Abrahamsen to this. He was right as the Blues are so far finding success. "Would I lie to you guys," said GM Steve Abrahamsen of the press. "I knew and I'm sure all of the guys down in the locker room knew that we were not playing like we should have in this league. We have had three great wins so far. The win vs Colorado was definately a big lift as far as confidence is concerned." The Blues defeated the Oilers(3-1), Avalanche(4-1) and Thrashers (6-5), and received its only loss against a power house in the Philadelphia Flyers(3-1). "We are definately a very talented team and can go far in this league. We need to take it one step at a time and not over look anyone," said Doug Weight. "The Colorado win was a big boost. We need to build off of that to have success." Many people seem to be looking for the Blues to acquire an established goaltender here in the UHA, but Abrahamsen denies reports of that. "Brent and Freddie are our guys. I don't know what else to tell you(the press). I would really like to see some of these rumors. I bet they don't even make any sense." As said before, the Blues are currently looking for a defenseman. The Blues were attempting to get Zdeno Chara from the Ottawa Senators, but that deal fell through when the Sens wanted Hlavac and Dvorak coming back the other way. Abrahamsen denied that offer and went no further in talks with Ottawa. Now it seems as if the Penguins are looking for possibly a salary dump and a build of the future. Reports from ESPN's EJ Hradek say that the Penguins are looking to trade Darius Kasperitus to the Blues for possibly a bunch of young players. This package would include Bryce Salvador, a mid round draft pick, and who knows what else. The deal could possibly even go through by the end of the weekend.
