Just UAE and Morocco, both supposedly mild and secular, but, really, its pervasive fundamentalism - it isn't good. They are gorgeous people - invite you into their house and feed you and within 13 minutes we were talking about Mohammed - or being screamed at about Mohammed. Odd ... Koran filters through speakers on every street corner, never ending prayers, and women draped in abundant layers of cloth.

Not my bag of tea at a minimum and dangerous at maximum.

This morning on Larry King there was a panel board discussion - interesting stuff. A 'New testament Christian' (shudder), a Catholic, a Muslim, and a Jew - all prominent, published informed representatives of their faith.

They were all great, except the Christian. They all talked about how to forge understanding and the common bonds and the most important aspects of their religions which according to each of them embraced each other rather than rejecting diversity. All the while, the noisy fucking arse hole Christian just kept telling them that they were all going to hell and that 'everything in the Bible is verifiable and absolute truth' and THIS IS FACT. THIS IS RIGHT bla bla bla.

Aghhhhhhhhhhh I just can't stand them. You know what I mean: three really decent peaceful people (all against the war) engaging and comparing and forging understanding and this horrid rigid ugly christian (who spoke five times as loud as everyone else) guy showing exactly why America, who can't intelligently interact with difference, ruining the whole discussion and making people feel uncomfortable and angry.

So, perhaps you are right - but I do get a sense of something being amiss in Islam.
