Subject: Mark Derwin Sounds Off

In the new SOD, Derwin is asked, "What can we say to all the Ben and Viki fans who are mad that you guys haven't been working?" He responds, "I apologize. If it were up to me, I'd be on all the time. I love playing Ben. I love playing Blondie's man. I wish Erika and I were working the way we used to. We had a great storyline -- she was my Blondie, and all of a sudden, that changed. The show took some different turns, and that's understandable. You want to promote other actors and other storylines. That's okay. But that was hard for us because we loved working together, and the storylines were really fun. We suffered, and the viewers who enjoyed our work suffered, too. If I was in a position where we were working the way we used to -- Ben and Blondie -- I probably wouldn't have [left]. But this is an oportunity I have to take."

He also says that the writers are probably "scrambling to figure out what to do because [my leaving] doesn't exactly work with the storyline. I'm sure if they had known about this earlier, I might have stayed in the coma, but...I don't think it'll be too hard for them to figure out what to do. They'll come up with some reason for me to leave for a while. Thereapy, whatever. I'd love to be able to come back. I'm still in shock that they're letting me do this."
