'24' DVD to include
a live one

PASADENA, Calif. - Teri Bauer lives - on the DVD edition of "24."
The wife of government agent Jack Bauer died in the season finale of the Fox series, which depicted a single story in real time over 24 episodes. She'll remain dead when the series returns next season.

But the Sept. 17 DVD release of the first season of "24" will include an alternate ending in which Bauer's wife survived, said co-creator and executive producer Joel Surnow.

Trouble is, some fans remain unconvinced that Teri, played by Leslie Hope, is really gone. Kiefer Sutherland, the star of "24," said people on the street are asking how he saved his TV wife.

When he explains that he didn't, they walk away with a look of despair. "And I go, 'There goes another one,'" said the unshaven Sutherland, whose character will start the new season sporting a beard.

Even though an alternate ending was shot, there was never any doubt Teri Bauer would be killed off.

Sutherland said the conclusion fit the emotional intensity of the show. "Leslie Hope was one of my best friends," he said. "I was very upset about the way it ended.

"But I think what the ending did is show that we will carry the show through in the vein that we started. We're not going to cop out. And most important, at the end of every 24 hours, there is going to be a conclusion. Whatever story line we start with gets resolved."

Sutherland said he would agree to having his own character take a bullet if that were the best thing for the show.

"The format is the star of the show," he said. "Everybody is expendable. Unlike a traditional television show, any one of us can go."

Surnow said a marathon of "24" episodes will run on FX before the second season begins. He's also in talks with Fox about having a few of the best episodes air there before the second season premiere on Oct. 29.

[> I loved the ‘24’ season finale, but hated that Teri got axed after all she’d gone through. I might buy the DVD just to see the alternate ending. I also read an article that said the show will continue in its original format for the new season, which will take place one year after Teri’s death and include a possible new love interest for Jack. Actually, I was glad she got it. Being in love with Keifer Sutherland since Stand By Me I tend to dislike all his women. I still can't stand Julia Roberts for what she did to him. I read an article about the show and part of the problem was the actress who played Teri didnt get along with one of the producers and she knew she would get killed because of it. Also they thought if everyone lived it would be too unbelievable, and I think that is true. I like it when the good guy loses once in a while. It's more like real life. Now if they need a love interest for next season, I'm available! Hell, I would pay them.
