David Richter Road Journals - Lame
Sex, Lies and Videotape... well almost?

"The mass exodus at Monex included me . . . . I’m not into trash talkin’ Gagg, or Monex…the scene is too small to do that, and besides I don’t think I need to. I’ll just leave it at that, save the rest for the book.

"The whole adventure at Monex made me realize the lameness of cycling in America. I realized why it’s not a big-time sport in America. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But why didn’t anyone (cycling media) get a clue when nearly half the squad of a professional team quit all of a sudden? Not that I care, but that’s news, man. Imagine if this would have happened in baseball, basketball, football, car racing, etc.

"Our media, if you can call it that is lame, so it makes the whole sport lame. Our magazines really don’t provide us with any “news.” They just print pictures of skinny dudes with ripped legs and painful looks on their faces. Why do they even bother with words? When they test products they never give a bad review! They never want to say anything to make the manufacture not send them another free product.

". . . Lame. No wonder the world doesn’t care…we have our own little world. Why isn’t cycling news in local news papers? I’ll tell you why…there is no news in cycling. It’s all pictures, captions & bad reviews of products.

". . . This Monex “scandal” had WWE all over it! But I’m sure that the latest tire (now in fashion colors) review was more interesting. Or maybe it was the review of a “massage stick” that bumped the Monex story. God. In a way I’m part of this lameness, but at least I know it.

. . ."

after reading the quoted article, i would have to say that david richter is basically perpetuating the problem (i.e., not getting to the facts) he decries -- either that, or he was poorly quoted in the original posting (which i tend to doubt).

[the ellipses are my exclusions, but i don't think i left any substance out -- by source is cited -- feel free to check the original report yourself]
