Subject: Dan Blocker and Dr. Strangelove

The great Slim Pickens as Major Kong will be forever remembered for riding the atomic bomb all the way down to explosion over Russia while waving his cowboy hat while whooping and hollering in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant 1964 movie "Dr. Strangelove (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb".

John Wayne was originally offered the Major Kong role but turned it down.

The role was then offered to Dan Blocker at the height of his Bonanza fame, but he also turned it down.

Both Wayne and Blocker supposedly disagreed with the staunch anti-war politics conveyed throughout the script....
