Okay here I go. This probably won't be as long a ramble as my one on the ST board 'cause I'm sick and wanna go to bed but I also want to contribute to the new board so here I am.

I loved this ep. Sometimes a pilot doesn't grab you, it doesn't explain the premise, the characters, their pasts enough that you want to watch the next ep. This wasn't one of those. Great way to open - Angel in a bar pretending to be drunk and then he's sober and there's that great fight scene in the alley. I love where he's just asked the vamps if they've seen his car (it's big and shiny) and the lead vamp turns to him in full vamp mode and Angel makes a face and says "Breathmint?".

We then get the wonderful itroduction of Doyle and his extremely amusing take on Angels back story (Young Miss Puppy Thighs - I don't *get* this nam for Buffy, I like it, iit sounds vaguely insulting, but I don't get it. Anyone who does get it and would care to enlighten me?).

I love so many parts of this ep. I love Cordy and the vunerablity she shows in every scene. I love Angel really trying to have a new life away from Buffy. I love Doyle part mysterious stranger part every-man slob (the New Zealand t.v. Guide called him "A mystic mentor who would rather be at the race-track" - I bought the whole mag just for that quote)

I love the ending. It's as much a challenge to us the viewers to keep watching as it is to Angel to start this new way of life.

Are you game?
I'm game.

Oooh, good points Iris, I agree, it does seem hard for a show to create a really interesting pilot, they have so much they have to deal with, brand new characters or(not so new), plot, something attention grabby that sets viewers in to see what happens next... and somehow they were able to do this with " City of Angels..." Gotta admit, that's the first time I thought of C/A... even when I was still a B/Aer. I pulled a " But... Buffy..".. slowly realized that I enjoyed C/A way more.. hence this Website:)
