Subject: " A Walk Down Memory Lane: Parting Gifts" oooh time for this thread
Okay, this is one of those eps that I really adore.. sure it was kinda a filler... but we got the characters dealing with the emotion... and we really start to see that Angel cares for Cordy and WANTS her around, at first he's trying to do the SUNLIGHT thing again for her- and then he admits he wants her there.. except, could it be, oblivious Cordy?? Ah, so she existed back then as well:)
Heres the scene:
Angel: “Cordelia, get out.”
Cordy: “What?”
Angel: “I-I mean, of the office. Take the day off. Go live your life a little bit. I can manage here.”
Cordy gets up: “ Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing, Angel.”
Angel: “What am I doing?”
Cordy: “You’re trying to push me away, close yourself off.”
Angel: “That’s not what…”
Cordy: “Well, I got news for you, broody boy. We’re all we’ve got now. You may not like sharing your grief with others, but that’s the normal, healthy way people deal with loss. I’m not going anywhere, so get used to it. I’m staying right here! (the alarm on her watch goes off) Oops! Got to go. Commercial audition. If it wasn’t a national I’d blow it off.”
Angel: “Well, if you don’t feel up to it then don’t go. Stay here.”
Cordy: “Reverse psychology, very cute, don’t worry. I’m going.”
Angel: “I’m not…”
Cordy: “But don’t get any ideas. I’m coming back!”
Angel: “Right.”
Oh and a kinda kiss with stuttering involved... didn't I mention that??

Go to these Screencaps!! On the second page, the second picture... for some reason that pic really, REALLY gets to me- it's one of my favorite screencaps ever-- maybe it's the way he's looking at Cordy, I dunno tell me what you think. Now discuss away!!:)

This was an ok ep.
We got some overdue A/Cness, and while I like Wesley (he looked ridiculous in the leather suit though, IMO), I didn't like how the writer's were dumping him on us. I could see why so many people hated Wes when he first came on, it was like the writer's weren't respecting the Doyle fans. The funny thing is, DG (or TM) said that Cordy is Doyle's replacement, not Wes. Of course, they could just be B.S.ing us, wouldn't be the first time.
Back to the A/Cness, I always enjoy the look on Angel's face when he finds out she has the visions now. Pure horror. He's realized he's stuck with her.

I never saw season three of Buffy and the first half of season one until the repeats, so I loved Wes by the time I got to this episode. I just thought he was hilarious with the "These pants chafe one's...legs."
Plus when he was leaving Angel's apartment at the end of the episode, it was taking forever until Angel invited him for breakfast and he moved to the table in a flash.
Also, I thought he looked hot in the leather. When he walked out of the shadows, at Barney's apartment, holding the crossbow and saying "Hello, Angel," in his sexy accent. Of corse as soon as Angel disarmed him he looked ridiculous. He had seemed capable and worthy of the leather, but unfortunately he wasn't yet. The Wesley of today, in my opinion, is definitely leather worthy. I love my Wes.
I also loved the Cordy/Angel interaction. She never doubted for a minute that he'd find her. Oh and of course, I wouldn't be a true C/Aer if I didn't mention this, the kiss. Loved the look of confusion on Angel's face as she walked towards him.
This was a great episode.

I just loooooooooved Cordy's "stalk, grab and kiss" attack on Angel when she tried to pass the visions on to him..lol
Then Barney, Then Wes....lol and I'm sure anybody else she thought she could shove them off on. I do wonder why THAT kiss on Angel didn't give him the visions but the kiss in Birthday took them from him......mmmmmmmmm yes I have too much time on my hands to ponder these things.
I guess it's true how different people read things differently because I didn't see a look of panic on Angel's face to the effect that he was now "stuck with her" I saw panic in the sense of worry because he knew what SHE would be suffering the same way Doyle did with the pain.
And who could miss Cordy yelling "I just KNEW you'd find me" when Angel rescued her? She already knew she could depend on him and no that he'd never let anything happen to her.
Loved the end with Angel cooking Cordy breakfast......the whole nine yards from juice to toast even though he doesn't eat. Can we all say awwwwwwwww :-)

Re: " A Walk Down Memory Lane: Parting Gifts" oooh time for this thread -- Morrigan, 11:35:01 03/14/02 Thu
I really liked this ep as well. It had some definate moments of drama but, didn't get all angsty and depressing over Doyle's death. I really liked the opening scene where Cordy is looking for Doyle's favorite mug. Trying to find something to hold onto (even something silly) is a a very realistic way of dealing with loss.
Although I wasn't a big Doyle fan I wasn't that thrilled with the introduction of Wes at the time. I didn't like how he was the new comic relief. I can see where TM's comment that Cordy was replacing Doyle and not Wes came from. Pretty much from this ep. on all of the intimate buddy/revelations scenes that normally would have featured Doyle/Angel were now set up for Cordy/Angel.
I did like Wes in the leather. He was very sexy coming out of the shadows with the cross bow. I was so shocked with Wes wearing the flanel in "Loyalty" I can't believe I didn't remember him in the leather.
Loved Cordy kissing Angel to get rid of the visions. I didn't take his look after he found out as horror of being stuck with her, more like fear as to what she would go through.
Prince - Went and checked out your fav. screen cap. I love the way Angel is looking at Cordy there. Thanks for pointing it out!

Maybe it's not an "I'm stuck with her" look. But more of an incredulous "*She's* my link to the Powers? *Cordelia*?" look. But I thought that was a cute reaction from Angel, he was just like "oh God..".

I do like this ep, good C/A bonding with the bonus of Wesley. I think you can really see in this ep how Angel is saving the souls of those close to him ...Wes & Cordy, we've already seen it with Cordy but when Wes broke down and said the council were right to sack him it was Angel who gave him the encouragement to pull himself together and start getting his self respect back, and then of course, inviting him to stay for breakfast. I love it when Angel is so perceptive and wise and kind.
Also, looking at the screen caps, (i agree with you about that pic princess), I noticed that after Angel and Wes save her she gives Angel a hug while he's in Vamp Face, I don't think I'd noticed that before or seen it on the show. I think it shows just how much Cordy is starting to accept ALL that he is. Can you imagine sunnydal Cordelia huging a vamped Angel before, even if he had just saved her.
Any way, just my observations:-)

Re: Interesting "Birthday" Connection -- Morrigan, 06:47:25 03/15/02 Fri
Forgot to mention this yesterday but, the demon that Wes was tracking in "Parting Gifts" was a Kungai demon, the same kind that took Wes's arm in the "Birthday" alterna-verse. Thought that was an intersting connection at least we know where/how Angel and Wes came to work together in the "Birthday" verse.
I really have too much time on my hands.... : )

Not too much time morrigan- just a wonderful analytical brain:)
Great connection- I hadn't even thought of it. I wonder what else in Birthday connects back to these episodes....
Gad! What I really want to know is how Angel got the visions????!
