I'm at a loss on this one. There are so many different things that could be going on that I wouldn't know where to tell you to begin. If I were having those kinds of trouble on my system, I could probably find a way to straighten them out but it would take a lot of trial and error, backing up the registry and fiddling with it, restoring the backup when that wasn't the solution, etc.

A friend has a similar problem and he ended up having to boot the system from the installation CD so he could get to the hard disk and delete some files that were always in use, then replace them. None of that stuff is easy.

So...

It sounds to me as if you have reached a point where you will either have to have someone with a lot of knowledge of the OS sitting at the keyboard or you will have to consider reinstalling the OS. If you reinstall the OS, the first thing you should do after you get your internet connection functioning is to go to the windows update site and let it update your system.
