Subject: Pilled up soldier boys pumped for action by military bosses

A controversial drug that can keep people awake for days has been bought in bulk by defence chiefs.

The Ministry of Defence has admitted buying 24,000 Provigil pills, according to The Guardian.

The drug is licensed in Britain to treat rare sleeping disorders where sufferers are hit by daytime sleepiness.

Figures from the Defence Medical Supplies Agency, which provides medical products to "sustain UK military capability" shows the MoD has bought AŁ43,000 worth.

Demand peaked in 2001, the year British troops entered Afghanistan, when 5,000 pills were bought.

Another 4,000 were purchased in 2002, the year before the Iraq invasion.

The MoD could not immediately comment on the report.

Provigil is used by both the US and French armed forces.
