Miss Universe Canada DID NOT come into existance until 1993. First owned by Mary Chann and now Dennis Davilia. In 1981 Baton Broadcasting owned the Miss Canada name. Her girls simply had a sash that said CANADA. (i am looking for my pics of Carmen Kempt for verification but cant find the dis...of course!) Yup. Her sash did just say CANADA on it. I brought her on an appearance once and was told that she should be referred to as 'the winner of the canadian search for miss universe' ...ya all the signs for her appearances, media and printing just said Miss Canada. Way too compicated to have to educate everyone on the 'legalities' of the name. All people knew was that she represented Canada at Miss Universe, therefore she was Miss Canada to the masses.
