In reply to: Patricia 's message, "What about when Amoreena Ashe tried for Miss teen 2008, and she was suppose to win the scholastic award. But it went to the 2nd place winner b/c she already won the Miss Friendship." on 21:24:58 05/18/11 Wed

Amoreena was a student of mine and she did absolutely fabulous at the pageant that night. (and in my opinion was robbed of a placement). In this one year, they did try to say that there was this rule, however I have never since them reinstate this rule since. Over the years there has been winners that have won multiple awards. In fact I am one of those people, back in 2006 I became the first person to ever win all 3 available awards (friendship, scholastic & achievement) and win the title of Miss Calgary. It was a very proud moment for me because I worked so hard for all of those awards & the title. I would have been very upset if an award was held back from me because I had already won an award. That was a tough moment for Amoreena.

In my opinion a winner is a winner, no matter what. If they earned the win they should receive it, not giving it to someone because they already won an award is not far. I do see the other side of things though, as a pageant organizer it's tough when someone wins all the awards because then you have to deal with a larger amount of disappointment and resentment from other contestants (and I have had this happen before). But I am a believer in being 100% fair, I would never mess with scores to make more people happy, whatever the score cards say is what the results will be.

I think if a pageant system wants to have a rule in place like only being able to win 1 award. Then that rule should be announced and made clear to all contestants before the pageant starts.

Who cares about making parents or other contestants happy. If they won it fair and square than it shouldn't be awarded to someone who is second best. Its like letting one person win all the awards but giving the crown to second best because they didn't win any awards. Patti Falconer is a very strange agency... Someone needs to end they're pageant management. Isn't the prize just a bouquet of flowers and tiara after the winner has spent hundreds of dollars on entry fee and gown???
