Because it was held in Mexico, it was more accessible for people from Canada to attend and she went there with some friends. It is unfortunate that Samantha is being critized for an incorrect assumption (although without knowing the difference I understand how that assumption could have been made). She has worked hard and is very focused on doing the best she can. We should be grateful to have such a committed representative of our country. On another note, I find it disappointing to read some of the posts on this board. The pageant industry in other countries is so strong - and we can only hope to re-build our industry to that level. But how can we expect Canadians to respect our pageant industry when our own "pageant fans" are so negative? It is my sincere hope that Canadian pageant fans can bond together some day and support our representatives rather than look for reasons to critize them. Subject Author Date I don't think our pageant fans are necessarily negative, as much as they are somewhat skeptical lately. There was no negativity when Natalie, Alice or Leanne were MUC. I think the appearance of impropriety on the part of the MUC Organization is fueling the flames. And I think it will continue if situations like that trip to Nicaragua, where certain girls were clearly invited along on the trip despite not being the new queen. And if any of these girls should win the title of MUC next year, then more speculation of "fixing" the outcome will again be raised. Unfortunately, whether the next winner deserves to win or not, that is a fact. (NT) jmo 11:53:20 07/02/08 Wed I agree with what you're saying, however, there is another misunderstanding. During MUC this past year, all contestants were notified (in a letter) that the top 5 would be going to Nicaragua on that trip. Sahar and Genita couldn't make it (due to work committments) so two other top 10 members (who were available to go) went in their place. Sadly, no matter who wins next year there will be claims of "fixing" - there will always be some "reason". When Natalie won, there were also claims of it being fixed, but that was forgotten after she won Miss Universe. And yes, those claims were made about Alice too. I understand people being skeptical, but instead of assuming negitave thoughts surrounding things like the Nicaragua trip, please look at the other possibilities too and the sincere purpose of that trip. I think the PR team at the MUC Organization needs to be more on their toes making to sure to explain images like that so that there is no speculation. Do you know what I mean? (NT) -- jmo, 14:14:34 07/02/08 Wed Isabelle, I am a past pageant contestant and because this world is so small, a friend of mine actually knew by chance one of Alice's sponsors and this sponsor leaked before her crowning they Alice was promised by the organization she would win. This sponsor was bragging about his "MUC" before she even won.. and he knew this information from Alice herself. There is alot more information that I know but I wont share.. The girls that are from the Toronto area know what this pageant is about and how Denis runs his pageant. I would never recommend any girl pay an entry fee to this pageant. Ana Zotovic gave Alice a real run for her money in my opinion and it could have gone either way, but ultimately I think the right decision was made by the JUDGES based on Alice's MU performance. I wish bitter former contestants would stop griping about their defeats on this message forum, it's growing rather tiresome... (NT) -- Sigh..., 00:49:21 07/03/08 Thu No. Alice was the winner from the beginning. She's was undeniably the most beautiful contestant and deserved her win, whether it was fixed or not. No one came close to Alice. In Natalie's year, many of us thought Gretel Montgomery was more beautiful and should have won. That was a competitive year and in retrospect it turned out right. Canada produced one of the most beautiful Miss Universes ever. In Leanne's year, I was surprised by her win, because she seemed to come out of nowhere. However, she was the most beautiful that year, and my very favorite Miss Canada ever. It all seemed to fall apart after Alice. If it was fixed, they forgot to choose beautiful.
