A young Prince George woman has been selected as one of 10 British Columbians to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant.
Emily Hoddinott, 22, the sole competitor from northern B.C., will compete at the pageant in Toronto April 18 to 28 along with 61 other contestants. The national winner will go on to represent Canada in the Miss Universe Pageant in Vietnam this summer.
Emily, who's been training in routines and modelling in Vancouver, is now working with sponsor Park Avenue Fashion with Flair in Prince George to select her wardrobe.
"I need about eight cocktail dresses as well as gowns, bathing suits and other apparel," said Hoddinott, who's confident about her chances.
"I'm very confident and I expect to be in the top 10," she said. "It's a beauty pageant and I think I've got what it takes as far as how I look at life and my love for my country," she said in an earlier interview.
The crowning of Miss Canada Universe, featuring the finalists, will be televised on April 28.
In 2005, Torontonian Natalie Glebova was named Miss Universe Canada and went on to win the Miss Universe crown.
Along with competitions, the Miss Canada Universe pageant offers a People's Choice event online for residents to vote for their favourite candidate. Visit the website at www.beautiesofcanada.com to vote for Hoddinott, who is candidate number 20.
Emily spent her childhood in Prince George with her mom and her sister.
She's a fitness-oriented person, who enjoys outdoor activities, taking dance classes, and working out at the gym.
Hoddinott said she views life in a positive manner, believes in staying fit and healthy and makes it an important part of her life. She is taking classes to become a fitness trainer in the hopes of opening her own fitness centre in the future.
Her sponsors include Park Avenue Fashion with Flair, Ann-Louise Jewellers, Four Points Hotel, Murray Zackowfki and Images In White Wedding Gallery.

I hate to say it but it seems like every 'miss canada' pageant claims to be being televised, yet it never comes to fruition or it ends up being on a local channel or an ethnic cable channel. I think sometimes the chinese station picks it up if there are chinese girls in it, same with the indian station, but dont look for it being nationally broadcast. (NT)Christi09:14:41 04/12/08 Sat
