Subject: From the factory this way???

 This was my wives great grandmothers gift from her mother, I looked at the serial it's 1909. Did they do this kind of hand engraving at the factory? Near where the diamond is put in there's also very small writing. What's with the chain with the pulley? It's just in mint condition. Obviously you need photo's so I posted them here they are VERY large, you have to click again when they open to see full size to see the fine detail.
