Not only should this be a treasured family piece, but it's an outstanding watch in its own right. It would have sold for about $50 when new in 1914, or nearly $1000 in today's dollars. That page also notes how there were any number of different dial styles available. The "24 hour" dial is just one - sometimes they were a mix of arabic and roman figures, sometimes all arabic.
