John!
I have much to learn. Thank you for setting me right. I AM very new to this fascinating interest and I have chosen to start with unexpensive movements. I currently own two Elgins (early 19:th century, 7 jewels, individuals in a COUNTLESS row of sisters and brothers), a rather fine Waltham Riverside from 1906 and an inexpensive Waltham movement. I see these as my learning items. By tending to them, do research and get the feel for them, I cut my first chips of, what proves to be, a HUGE and interesting log of knowledge.
Are collets available? If so, can you recommend somebody?
I use a local watchmaker (retired but still has the passion and especially so for old watches and clocks) and he will be given the assignment to service the watch (and install a new collet), should I become the owner of it. I will ask him to check the locations you pointed out for matching numbers (yes, yes. I am a coward but I do not think that I should tinker with the mecanics just yet). The movement you directed me to seems to be VERY similar to the one I found! That is exciting!
