Liam joined her melodious laugh. He blushed, revealing his bright smile.
"No,...no I don't treat all my friends like that. Only very special ones,...if not better."
He looked at those glittering eyes again, still amazed at her beauty. He stood up, clearing his throat and walking around a bit as he spoke.
"I didn't have many friends in my travels, but the ones I had were all trustworthy. Before I was an assassin...and I was...Someone thought I had excellent wit and ability (which I still possess) and so hired me likewise. The pay was good and that's what I lived off of for a time. But please know that my ways have changed completely since then and I pain at the guilt that eats away at my mind."
The man stopped and looked upward, eyes hazed over with bitter memories, muscles tensing with remembrance. Then he gained control and spoke again.
"I lived and traveled where my horse took me, he seemed to know where I was needed. He and Loiosh kept me company. I (unwillingly) inherited Loiosh from a friend of mine: a wizard. He died and left me all of his possessions including his home and familiar, sort of took me be surprise. Now we are one as man and familiar, "master", he calls me. The silly beast, heh, funny when he doesn't want to be.�
�Anyway, I settled in that charming house on the beach, near a charming little city where I met the chief of the peacemakers who patrolled the streets catching thieves and what-not. He discovered my wit as I feigned a detective and accidentally cracked a case, and soon after the whole city knew me as the exadurated 'Rhenford the Bloodhound'. But I aided my chief-friend a bit further then decided to move on. Before all this, as a child, my parents were killed during a foolish war that never should have happened. I know of your pain as an orphan."
A small tear was detected in Liam's strong eyes. He shook it away.
"All in all I have traveled seas, fought battles, saved kings, conversed with gods, made legends reality, tricked the untrickable, and even conquered my own fears and discovered my true self. But all in all," He said, laughing at the irony, "I am merely...a man. Nothing more, nothing less. And I have come here to finally get away from it. . ."
He sat down and let out a lengthy sigh.
"To finally rest. And I have already found what I'm looking for: a generous woman who so kindly invited me to stay under her roof and live in peace...and that alone means a great deal to me."
Silence settled the room; only the crackle of the fire was heard. Then it was broken again by Liam's cool voice.
"Now then, I have spoken plenty of myself and hope I'm not as much of a stranger to you as I was before, and it is your turn, Ember to tell me. I want to help you in any way I can, so tell me what troubles you the most...say what you've been wanting to."
