Humm very interesting perspective. The more I think about the story (which becomes a little sketchy after a recent overdose of Chobits^^), I believe that Jerry has captured a better sense of what the anime is really about: Self-control vs obeying orders. Brilliant.

However, even if the anime really wants to get across this theme, I still think it is a lousy job. Jerry said that "[Najica] has faith that she herself would be able to draw the line should the situation arise." Does the anime show incidents of such dire situations when she needs to make a choice between self-control and obeying orders, except the ending episode? Where does such tension in making a choice for such a dilemma build up? I understand that Lila chooses to leave Najica at the ending. But I can see few hidden lines in previous episodes that makes a smooth transition to this revealing ending. And I can observe little interchange in emotions between Najica and Lila. It might be better to say that the theme about locus of control is there within the story, but the story becomes so obssessed about panties, Najica's success and Najica's job as an agent that such a potential theme is largelt left unexplored.

And sorry about that, but after watching Chobits, the AI talked in Najica becomes too superficial and uncreative to me. Lila is the typical emotionally-void deduction machine, a little to cliche for me to become emotionally attached to. I shouldn't make such a comparison; after all the stories are totally different. But oh god, I'm biased.^^

As a critic, I become very picky in that a theme to resonate within every episode of an anime. I want no fillers, and no distractions. I want brilliantly camoflagued hidden lines that will later pop up later in the story which send me knocking my head and say "Why haven't I noticed before?" I want the theme to be brought up through character interactions, through actions, through conflicts and stuff, and I would love to put my hand on a particular example in the story and say, "Look, this is what I meant." After all, we can perceive a story in a thousand ways, but a story can actually back up only a few of such perceptions using its storyline.

As I said, I'm picky, and I'm just so glad that Jerry would kindly point out another perspective on the story to me. Pls pardon my words if they offend you in any way, and just post another message to stab me!!! Really!!!

P.S. Unfortunate that you haven't left me your email address. It would be my honor if you can write more critics on RECENT FANSUB anime you've watched, so that I can post as a column on my webpage with your name on. Can you tell me your email address?
