When we went to school
all we had to think about
was the big test tomorrow
or if our team would win on Friday

When we went to school
all we had to fear
was the recess bully
unless you were one

When we went to school
we could walk freely
to and from each day
without dread of being abducted

Those days are sure long gone
as I read the papers and watch the news
Kids today have so many worries and fears
The main one--just staying alive
