Subject: Victorian Bushfires

Being a resident of Victoria ...I thought I would just post a small note bout what is happening with the bushfires and also to let you know about the incredible stories of heroism and compassion coming out of it...as it stands the figures are 5000 people are homeless, 181 killed , 80+ hospitalized, 700 homes destroyed and the death toll could reach 300 as many places/towns have been burnt to the ground looking more like a war zone than well...Stories of families huddled together in their home wiped out ....carloads of people escaping the flames also perished...Hero's are also being made firemen fighting fires as personal loss, volunteers exhausted working 16 hour and more shifts, individuals saving neighbours lives at risk of their own ...everybody has rallied together to help each other ...I have never seen anything like it ...I can only say the Australian spirit is really showing...A bushfire appeal has been started by the red cross raising millions of dollars...People have donated clothes , food, toys for children , musicians are setting up rock concerts and sportsman are coming up to personally visit the staging area's when the victims are housed in tents....so far we have not been affected by the fires as we live closer to Melbourne and the fires are in the outer country area's , but some fires are reaching out and smoke is everywhere here...

It is so sad we all feel for the victims and those in the thick of it
