Subject: THE "N"WORD

As black history month is comin to a close in Rice high school as a school we decided to have a assembly on feb.28th the last day of the month and discuss certain issues of our history like the word nigger how it was used in a negative way before and how its used now in a postive way.And during this discussion our principal at Rice Mr.Gober feels the word is unappropriate no matter if people use it in a good way now because during slavery the whites used to use that name to put us down and make us look less than human so he got alittle uptight when we tried to tell him that in my generation we as blacks used the word nigger not to put other people thats our race down it has a different meaning to us now then it did then so this assembly that we had made me really sit and think about the word nigger that people in my generation use as if its just a regular word but its not. I feel terrible that i call my own race what the whites used to call us to put my race down. So this assembly that we had today makes me think twice about using the word nigger.
