I pulled into Nazareth...and was feelin' 'bout half-past dead...just needed someplace, where I could lay my head..."Hey Mister, can you tell me, where a man could find a bed?"...He just grinned and shook his head and "No" was all he said...

Name that tune...

Great song by The Band! Hey, I saw The Band play at the Champlain Valley Fair one summer, probably around '76 or '77. Did anyone else go to that show? I've been lucky enough to see Dylan live quite often, but never saw him with The Band, of course.

What other live shows do you guys remember from the Fair? My teenybopper years, I loved it when The Cowsills would come to play the Fair.

My grandfather's house on Iroquois was close enough that we could HEAR the grandstand shows from the house! Another fair memory I have is of certain male friends of mine who insisted that you should never have to pay admission. No, they didn't sneak in the back or something like that, they insisted that if you had the right body posture and attitude, you should theoretically be able to walk in, walk right by the front gate, as if you belonged there!

Never worked for me, though.

I saw The Band at the fairgrounds too. I also saw The New Riders of the Purple Sage there. Great place for concerts!
We never paid admission and always snuck in to the fair until we had children and they couldn't climb over the fences! Now, we pay to get in.

I remember both of those concerts, vaguely...I believe Bob must have played there too. But my most memorable concert was The Rolling Thunder Review at the Patrick Gym; fall of 1975, I believe? Bob Dylan, The Band, Roger McGuinn, Joan Baez and a whole entourage of others, including the travelling poet, Allen Ginsberg, who sat near me. Also near me were Gerry Petrie and several monks from the Weston Priory. Both my folks were there too. What a night!

As for sneaking into the fair grounds, we did it for years through a hole near the St James Church. Later on we got bolder and just rushed the gate. I remember getting chased onto the midway one year. I crawled under a cotton candy cart; it was amazing that i didn't get electrocuted! For that matter, it was amazing that I survived the 70's!

Wow, Tim, you saw the Rolling Thunder Revue, in Burlington? I was in college already, so I missed that one.

My 1st Dylan concert was in Indianapolis, IN in '78. Since then I've seen him about four times in MN. The most recent one, on his "Love and Theft" tour, was the best.

One more memory: The night I saw The Band at the Fair, my date took me on the ferris wheel afterwards. It started to POUR down rain. The psychotic guy running the ferris wheel thought it very amusing to leave some of us up there. He literally let some people off, chose to leave a few of us on, made us go to the top, then he put the thing on hold and went into a tent where he took shelter from the rain/lightning!!!! I'm serious. I was so upset. Started crying, at first my date was laughing and then he realized we were in danger! What an awful ending to the night. Finally the ferris wheel guy let us down, but we had to walk home (it had been a nice night when we started out from home). We were soggy and in a bad mood. And it was my birthday. (Date shall remain nameless, EJHS class of '70, I believe).

Just checking the site. I was very disappointed this summer when we thought there was going to be a reunion and then not enough interest. I live in Plattsburgh so I am just far enough away that I don't see anyone and would love to know what is going on with the class of '77'. But, that does not mean that I am not interested in the upper and lower classes that were there when I was.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.
