Subject: Compass Gold Scan Pro

Sorry for corss-posting, but there aren't too many folks over on the new Compass Yahoo Forum yet. Hoping Jim Straight or someone can spare a little info. I have dug around on several forums and have the field tests, but nothing very concrete on ground balancing, etc. My post on the compass forum follows::

Well - It got here. My (almost new) GS Pro is serial Number 1863.
Seems to work fine. About 2 scratches on the search coil (no cover)
and the battery compartment is spotless.

Now I have the problem of no user manual.

I've never had a detector with a meter before. I guess it's normal
for the needle to "stay put" once it reads something until you re-set
it with the "trash out" or "all metal" button or run it over another
target.

Also, it "sounds off" (briefly) whenever I adjust the power level.

There's one small plugged hole on the back side with a dip switch
visible inside. What does that do?

Any info (or even better a scan of the manual) would be much
appreciated. Meanwhile I went out in my yard and found the first of
many pull tabs. Got to start somewhere. The meter read pull tab, 4"
and a pull tab is what it was - at 4". Can't complain, but it could
have been a gold ring!

I live in a pretty exotic place, Oman; my main challenge will be
avoiding getting arrested for doing something so obviously weird - by
local standards anyway. They are really nice people, but they have a
low tolerance for weird!

Rick K
