Subject: White's DFX For Nugget Detecting

Hi,

The question came up recently of what kind of nugget detector the White's DFX may be. And so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has actually put enough hours on a DFX while really nugget hunting to offer a good opinion.

I admit I am biased against the DFX for this particular use. I think the GMT and MXT are far superior for nugget detecting. The GMT because it is specifically designed for gold and has better sensitivity with its higher frequency. And the MXT simply because it is easier to operate.

DFX owners that have never nugget hunted certainly believe it can do the trick. But then, they've generally never done it.

In theory the DFX can be set for 15 kHz only operation and tuned up to operate much like an MXT. I've never tried it as I'd rather twist a couple knobs on the MXT for basic adjustments then wade through DFX menus. But for the person that owns a DFX it may be preferable to use the machine they already own, as opposed to buying another unit.

So, anyone really give the DFX a fair try at nugget detecting? Can it equal an MXT for nugget detecting? Jim M.?
