Hi John,

In your "heavy mineralization", a concentric coil is most definately NOT the way to go. In such conditions you need to stick with a double-D type coil design in order to see as little of the ground as possible at any given point. This helps in significantly reducing the ground effect from heavy mineralization.

Of the two you mention, the GM3 with the mini-DD coil would be my preference for heavy mineralization, and you would not see any appreciable depth loss in comparison to the 7 inch concentric on the Diablo uMax in those conditions. What advantage there might be toward the Diablo uMax where "smoothness" is concerned would more than likely be lost in bad ground by applying the 7 inch concentric. The GM3 would not only run smoother, but would give better sensitivity to smaller targets. It's sometimes "all in the coil" when the mineralization is at it's worst. Also in bad ground, the stock 7x10 DD coil on the uMax would be preferable.

Ralph
