Hi trapper,

See my field test of the X5 on small gold at http://www.akmining.com/mine/jour140.htm

The X5 is "water resistant", not waterproof. While it is very sensitive to small gold, I think it is important to remember that Troy is not marketing the X5 as a "gold nugget detector". It is a very good general purpose detector, but by todays standards the nugget hunting features are very basic.

What you have is a simple, all-metal, manual ground balance mode. Or you can run the detector in disc mode and set the disc at zero, or at a very low level of disc to help eliminate iron.

Anyway, an earlier post asked if the X5 is "better" than the other nugget detectors. My opinion is that it is a very capable manual ground balance nugget detector, with above average discrimination capabilites compared to most nugget detectors.

Still, I don't see the X5 as a detector that will have most people trading in their current favorite nugget detector. I do have an original Gold Bug that I would give up in favor of the X5, if only there was a small coil similar to the Fisher 6" elliptical available for the X5.
