Subject: Just Got My X5

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the info. I just received an X5, but have not had time to play with it. My rave review of the MXT notwithstanding, the X5 looks to be a great unit. You just have to like it the minute you pick it up, it's so light in weight. And why can't eveyone make a coil as thin as Troy? The 19 kHz frequency holds out great hope for the X5 as a nugget hunter, and tons of other applications besides.

It should be very good on small gold with the 5" coil.

This is a great year for detectorists, with so many new units coming to market. Both the White's MXT and Troy Shadow X5 promise to be true "do-it-all" units. Before now, I'd always recommend both a coin detector and a nugget detector for the serious person. But these two detectors in particular are going to change my way of thinking.

Personally, I feel they are both going to find their niche because of their vastly different configurations. The visual readout guy will like the MXT, and the light and compact crowd will like the X5. Performance issues between the two are likely to be one of those never-ending debates we are all so used to by now.

So I say let's not worry about it too much in that regard. Instead, if you like VDI readouts, percentage iron probablilities, ground content readouts, and such, look hard at the MXT. If you have no use for such things, and hunt strictly by ear, look hard at the X5. They are both great detectors.
