Hey Jim!!,
I can't believe we hit the post button at exactly the same time!!! :o) Thanks once again for a much appreciated tip. I know Ron will be appreciative also and I really won't forget you when I find that vein Jim. I'll show it with some nice specimen gold to you for being so generous with your expertise. I guess you've probably read my post that's dated and timed the same instant as your post by now. Hope you got a good laugh outta those guesses I was making about how to recover that vein. I don't believe I would have thought of exposing the complete vein by digging around it first and then extracting the vein intact, or at least as much as could be extracted intact. I suppose the acid you are referring to is HF? I use the stuff a lot in my profession as well as cleaning up gold and dirty looking quartz specimens. It makes for some beautiful looking specimens once they've been cleaned up. I wouldn't use the HF on nice glossy white quartz and gold though as it would really make the quartz come out with a dull finish thereby ruining the beauty of the specimen. The quartz I've found with gold so far is quite dirty grey and lusterless even after boiling it in HCL to remove dirt and crude. After the HF treatment though, it comes out (usually) as snowy white sugarquartz. It looks like sugar and is quite attractive with all the crystalline gold sticking out.
