.....most nuggets are found at less than 12 inches, because most detectors will only detect at less than 12 inches. Too many variables to make any kind of specific statements as to nugget depth. No doubt there are still alot well beyond the range of modern metal detectors, but as Matt and others can attest...... a bulldozer can do wonders. According to geologists, however, the vast majority of "nugget gold" is "near" surface levels..... whatever that means. Even they don't get too specific in their definition of "near".
