Subject: GMT "gain" settings
In reply to: Dan in Santa Cruz 's message, "Re: More first impressions of new "Mini DD" coil from White's" on 10:03:46 06/27/02 Thu

Dan, the gain setting of 8 on the GMT is the highest actual "power" setting for it. The higher "gain" settings, 9 and 10, are merely gain settings of 8, but with audio boost added. In essence, a gain of 9 is a power setting of 8, with a 2X (two times) audio boost. A gain setting of 10 is a power setting of 8, with an audio boost of 4X (four times). Inasmuch as the audio boost toggle switch gives 4X audio boost when engaged, it thus follows that a gain setting of 8, with audio boost ON, is the equal of a gain setting of 10 (got that?). Where the soil mineraliztion is pretty consistent, the audio boost helps get those pesky little "Mojave Midgets," or whatever else they are called in your neck of the woods. HH Jim
